The University Of Prince Edward Island is a public university in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and was founded in 1969. However, its roots can be traced back to 1820 when Kent College was created as well St Dunstan's University in 1855 and Prince of Wales College in 1860. They were merged in 1969 to bring together the Island's religious communities. It has just over 5,000 students, 1,600 of which are international students from more than 90 countries around the world. In Maclean's 2022 Guide to Canadian Universities, the University of Prince Edward Island was ranked seventh for "primarily undergraduate" Canadian universities. It also came 34th in the country for reputation.
UPEI offers residence halls with various room configurations, including single rooms and shared suites. Residence Life Advisors help international students to settle in and solve common queries. Residence halls come with a kitchenette, shared bathrooms, TV lounges and laundry facilities as standard. UPEI's Off-Campus Housing Office provides resources and listings to help students find suitable accommodation options off-campus in the nearby area too. Some international students choose homestay programmes, where a local host family takes care of them and shows them the nearby area.
The university's Student Affairs team offers many supports available for personal and academic success. This includes personal health and wellness, academic guidance, career development and health care services.
