Highlights
Hofstra University is a private university in Hempstead, New York. The University began as an extension of New York University in 1935 and has since grown to welcome around 6000 students yearly.
A multicultural campus committed to promoting diversity, the University welcomes over 900 students from over 80 countries annually.
For cultural activities linked to the University, the Hofstra Museum of Art, theater, and concert halls are within easy reach for most students. Hofstra University offers on-campus numerous different kinds of residence hall options to students, such as traditional dormitory-style buildings, suites and apartments. Each floor within the traditional-style dorms has a common area and shared bathrooms. The suites are still an excellent opportunity to meet fellow students as they are typically built to house between four to six students. Apartments have a maximum capacity of four, so students in higher years of study prefer this arrangement. Specialized housing options are also available, including gender-inclusive housing and substance-free housing. The University's online housing portal allows you to apply to live off-campus nearby. The Hofstra fitness center contains basketball courts, cardio equipment, a weight room and more spaces for exercise. In addition, sports facilities are extended to the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex, which serves as an arena, fitness center, swimming pool, and more. An ample space that received a lot of investment, it is a 100,000-square-foot facility. The University also provides specialized laboratories for engineering, computer science, and other subjects. Specialist schools include The Hofstra Law School and the Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine. The Axinn Library is the name of the University's main library, containing more than 1.2 million books and digital resources. Over 200 events occur on campus each year: from a business boot camp to film screenings, students can broaden their horizons within a live entertainment environment. Student clubs and fraternities/sorority organizations are a big part of university life, so the 200 registered student clubs on campus should help occupy students' time and allow them to meet like-minded friends. A range of student services is facilitated on campus so students can take care of their mental well-being with a trained counselor or nourish their physical body with the recreational activities offered by The Department of Campus Recreation.
